SEO workflows: clustering, briefs and audits
Cluster a keyword export by intent, write briefs and audit pages, with a monthly review. · 9 min read
SEO has a lot of structured, repetitive work: grouping keywords, writing briefs, checking pages. That is good territory for Claude, as long as you remember it analyses the data you give it.
What you will build
A loop you can run each month from a spreadsheet.
Figure 1. Measure what shipped, then feed it back into the next export.
Step 1: Export your keywords
Export a CSV from the SEO tool or Search Console you already use. Keep it simple: keyword, monthly volume if you have it, current position if you rank.
Step 2: Cluster by intent
Below is a CSV of keywords. Group them into clusters by search intent
(informational, comparison, transactional, navigational). For each cluster
give: a name, the primary keyword, supporting keywords, and the page type
that fits (guide, comparison, landing page). Flag keywords that look like
duplicates of one page rather than separate pages.
Return a table, then a short list of clusters I should do first and why.
[paste CSV]
Step 3: Write a brief per cluster
For the cluster "[name]" write a content brief: working title, search intent
in one sentence, H1, 5-8 H2s, questions to answer, internal links to include
from this list: [paste URLs], and what a reader should be able to do after.
Do not write the article.
Step 4: Audit a page
Paste the page text and ask:
Audit this page for the target keyword "[keyword]". Check: title length and
clarity, one H1, intro answers the query in 2 sentences, headings logical,
internal links present, claims that need sources, and thin sections.
Return a prioritized list of max 8 fixes with the exact new wording.
What Claude cannot do for you
It cannot promise rankings or traffic, and it does not know your live search data unless you provide it. Treat suggestions as hypotheses to test, and keep every edit that touches facts under human review.
Worked example
A blog with 300 keywords produced 18 clusters. Seven clusters mapped to existing posts that only needed an update, so the team refreshed those before writing anything new.
Common mistakes
- One page per keyword instead of per intent.
- Publishing a brief-to-draft without adding original experience.
- Not re-measuring after changes.
Checklist
- Clusters reviewed by a human
- Each brief has an intent sentence
- Audit fixes applied and logged
- Review date set for next month
